Edwards, Frances. “Learning Communities for Curriculum Change: Key Factors in an Educational Change Process in New Zealand.” Professional Development in Education 38, no. 1 (February 2012): 25–47. doi:10.1080/19415257.2011.592077.

What is this reading/text about?
Reviews the literature surrounding professional learning communities, identifies a number of different life cycle models in the literature, then describes the authors experience as leading a PLC and it going through 3 phases of establishing, converging, diverging.

Applicability to Col aspirations?
Case study provides an example of a group of schools going through a similar process (although their uniting focus with the implementation of the 2007 NZ Curriculum). From this we can gain insight into our own context and possibly develop some expectations about the process.

An interesting point raised for me was?
The importance of having diversity within a learning community. This can provide richer learning and lead to greater capacity building of the teachers involved.

The relevance for other lead teachers is?
Reinforces the complex nature of operating professional learning communities. We can't just follow a recipe and expect great success.
