Learning styles
how do YOU learn best? I learn best by reading.”
Next, in what environments do you learn best? I learn best in the morning.”
, from what types of teachers do you learn best? “I learn best by trying something on my own and then getting feedback from a coach.”
Dynamic learning style
Tips for you to finish the modules on GCC depending on what type of learner you are:
Dynamic Learner: set a clear goal and objective. For example: finish one module per week, until a specific date. Another tip is to include the GCC course on your weekly calendar: reserve a specific slot of time to do the videos and activities.
Who am I (Part 1)
Culture: A shared pattern of beliefs, behaviours and values.
A person's culture is like an iceberg - there are visible components (dress, food) and invisible (values, gender roles)
Identity - the traits that characterise us
Maybe for student try an 'identify fern' where the more important parts of their identify are placed at the bottom, bigger leaves.
Comfort zone (compliance) -> Learning -> Panic / disengagement
Re do image as speedometer.
Self regulation strategies (deep breaths, walk outside etc) can help take you out of the panic zone, and back into the learning zone.
Identity by symbols.
Sun obviously has Korean identity links, due to him speaking the language, but does not have the same links with the food that is prepared. This shows super diversity as an individual who shows signs of one identity (speaking Korean language) doesn't show signs of all (Korean food.)
Stereotypes & Generalisations
These type of assumptions can be hurtful and can easily lead to the wrong conclusions and unfair judgements. Sometimes can be useful - give us insights (Western business world people are expected to be punctual) HELPFUL ASSUMPTION
Differentiate between generalisation (flexible) and stereotypes (fixed)
Suspending judgement - being aware of our biases
Empathy is a psychological process that involves the ability to put oneself in the “mental shoes” of another individual to understand his or her thoughts, emotions, or feelings (Goldman, 1993) (Source)
Active Listening: listening to understand.
